Lighting of the 2012 Olympics’ Opening Ceremony
With the 2012 Games underway it’s all every one is talking about from hard core sports fans to lighting enthusiasts such as us. We know the lighting isn’t the main attraction during the events, but it was during the opening ceremony. The eye-catching animated pixel display was the creative work of Crystal CG, a London based integrated digital agency.
The company awed those looking on from the stadium and homes around the world by displaying a variety of images on a super-sized video screen created by Tait Technologies, which spanned the range of the audience’s seating. It was composed of 70,500 paddle-shaped LED Pixel Tablets which were each able to display nine color pixels in a square. The innovative screen and lighting design allowed viewers to actually become a part of the action instead of simply watching it.
