The Federal Trade Commission recently announced that by the middle of 2011 light bulbs will have new labels. The labelsĀ will educate consumers on the bulb’s brightness measured in lumens and the yearly energy cost. Watts will no longer be most important thing to consider in brightness because they do not measure it. Watts only measure how much energy the particular bulb uses. The new labels will help consumers choose the brightness of the bulb needed while keeping an eye on its energy efficiency.
The new labels will resemble the nutrition facts on foods and will look like this:
