A few weeks ago we read about a high-end hotel switching the bulbs in its marquee to LEDs, now there is news of the biggest LED change yet. Brinker, the company that owns the Chili’s and Maggiano’s’ Restaurants, has announced that they will switch all 827 of their restaurants to LEDs. As large consumers of energy, the restaurants will also be able to reduce their use of air condition because LEDs don’t displace as much heat as incandescents. Chili’s will switch approximately 120,000 bulbs making it the largest switch to date. They estimate savings from the LEDs to reach $3.7 million dollars each year. Applebee’s is wetting their feet with the idea by switching the lights in their New York restaurants. Soon LEDs will be used everywhere, from our homes, offices, restaurants and retailers.
