Tips on Lighting a Room with High Ceilings
While looking through the most recent Bright Ideas Newsletter distributed by the American Lighting Association we came across a question from a homeowner that we often hear. Many of today’s new homes are designed with extremely high ceiling which provide an elegant look, but are troublesome to light. Many people find it hard to distribute the right amount of lighting throughout their room with high ceilings. Given the large size of a room with 19-foot ceilings for example, layers of lighting are necessary to illuminate the entire space. Keep these tips in mind if you are encountering trouble lighting a room in your home with high ceilings.
- For rooms that contain trusses or beams run low-voltage linear or LED strips on top of them to direct lighting toward the ceiling.
- Use a variety of table, floor lamps and sconces to balance the ceiling lighting and for task lighting on a human scale.
